This concert will center around iconic scores from a range of classic films, presented through a rich variety of chamber music settings, solo performances, and ensemble arrangements. From the immense sense of temporal tension and cosmic space crafted by Hans Zimmer in Interstellar, to the collapsing layers of sonic architecture within Inception, the program explores how music shapes cinematic imagination beyond the screen itself. At the same time, the unforgettable themes from Cinema Paradiso and Schindler's List will unfold through violin solos and chamber ensemble performances, offering a more intimate, direct, and deeply nuanced emotional experience.

Within an Eastern musical context, the works of Ryuichi Sakamoto offer an entirely different sonic dimension. From the piano trio passages of The Last Emperor, to the lyrical expansiveness of Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, and the minimalist yet fluid musical language of Energy Flow, his compositions reveal a quiet emotional depth that transcends cinematic boundaries. At the same time, the inclusion of Qing Ping Yue introduces a more distinctly Eastern poetic atmosphere into the evening’s soundscape, while the timeless melodies of In the Mood for Love and Scent of a Woman will be reawakened through new string arrangements, allowing these familiar themes to resonate once again with renewed intimacy and elegance.

In emotional expression, the music of Joe Hisaishi has always carried a sense of warmth and purity. From the restrained dialogue between cello and piano in Departures, to the light yet deeply moving main theme of Kikujiro, these compositions will be rediscovered and amplified within the intimacy of the live performance space. Here, film music from different cultures and eras converges, awakening echoes of memory and emotion across time.
